Stefan Bircheneder is a master of illusionism. Except that he captures the structures, relics, and atmospheres emanating from abandoned factories: On the one hand, he creates meticulously executed paintings of factory ruins and other doomed sites that he has previously visited and documented photographically. On the other hand, he creates objects and installations—ranging from electrical distribution boxes to changing rooms—that evoke the former production processes that once took place there.
